AAC 2017 Nominations for Board Members

The AAC Nominations Process
 
All interested nomination candidates must be an AAC member in good standing, and have participated actively in the AAC for a minimum of one year prior to applying for a board, be able to interact respectfully and work professionally with other Board members, State Representatives, AAC members and the larger adoption constellation. All applicants must hold the American Adoption Congress in the highest regard.

All Board Member positions require a commitment of at least 5-20 hours a month depending on the specific position and require all applicants to participate in teleconference board meetings (usually held on Wednesday evenings) and yearly board meetings.

The following Nominations Committee Members (are made up of over 50% of NON - Board members) and were chosen and ratified by the current Board of Directors for the nominations process:

Nominations Schedule
The Schedule for the nominations process was as follows:

July 5 - July 14 Review of all applications by Nominations Committee
July 15 - July 22 Recorded Interviews with each nominee (Recordings to only be used by nominations committee and Board of Directors)
July 23 - July 30 Board Review of Nominees
August 4 - August 11 Elections by AAC Members
August 12 - August 16 Calls to all Nominees accepted
August 16 - August 18 Emails to all Nominees not accepted
August 20 Announcement to members and on website of all New Board Members and Positions
NOTE:  Per the 2007 AAC By-Laws - 
Section 6. Elections: A. Except as stated in this section or in Sections 5 and 10 (concerning the filling of vacancies), all members of the Board will be elected by the members in good standing from persons nominated by the Nominating Committee in its considered judgment, according to policies and procedures approved by the Board. Only members residing in a region may vote for the Regional Director of that region. If there is no contest for one or more Board positions, the candidates for such positions may be elected by acclamation, without balloting.   If no elections are held the following date for announcements will be  subject to change. 

Nominations Format
Will be in accordance with Roberts Rules of Order, in that; it is the charge of the Nominations Committee to find the best candidate for each office and only candidates who have completed the process as outlined will be considered: 
  • Be an AAC member in good standing and have participated actively in the AAC for a minimum of one year prior to applying, according to the Nominations Process which was approved by the board of Directors in February of 2011
  • Maintain a commitment to the AAC Mission and Goals
  • Be able commit to volunteering up to a minimum of 15 hours per week
  • Be able maintain confidentiality
  • Will make every effort to attend the Annual AAC International Conference
  • Attend monthly Board teleconferences
  • Be willing to serve in a position as appointed by the President
  • Undergo a criminal background check
  • Be willing to work collaboratively with other board members
  • Read thoroughly and sign all documents pertaining to Board policies, procedures and ethics
  • Turn in all documents within the application process on time and with their application
Prospective candidates who do not meet these standards will be disqualified from further consideration and will be notified in writing of their disqualification by the nominations chair.

Each applicant is required to read and understand the AAC Conflict of Interest and the AAC Code of Ethics prior to filling out either a Printable Application or a Fillable Application   NOTE: You must download the most current copy of Adobe to your computer to fill this form in.  Save the form to your computer, fill it in, save once more then you may email.
AAC Positions Open for Nominations
Job Descriptions for Positions which are currently open at the AAC
Per the AAC 2007 By-Laws (see section above): Per the AAC 2007 By-Laws (see section above): Should there be elections, All positions listed below for which there are applicants, will be put to a vote electronically by all members, who sho a valid email within the AAC database administration.  Members without email addresses in the database, will be mailed a voting ballot and given a two week period in which to return their vote via the prepaid envelope contained with the ballot.

For all Regional Director positions only members within that region will be able to vote for the applicant applying for that region per the AAC 2007 By-Laws.
