An Unexpected Surprise!

Sandy Muesser

I was too broken and didn't care if I ever heard the word adoption again. I felt as though I had been abandoned by my close comrades, and took a long sabbatical. Many years later, on the anniversary of my indictment, I realized that the fire I had early on, had returned. I joined Facebook though I had no clue how it worked. Susan Friel-Williams, who lives in the same city I do, reached out to me when she noticed I was struggling and showed me around. She knew I was determined to try to make a difference with the Adoption ALARM org. I had founded back in 86/87 and offered to help.
Then about a month ago, she mentioned that AAC wanted to Skype me during their 37th conference being held in Colorado. They wanted to know more about the Rally and/or our T-shirts. When the time came, I was all prepared to discuss those things. But suddenly I saw Susan at the podium presenting the Emma May Villardi Award! Then I heard my name. I was the recipient!
Shocked and overwhelmed, I kept saying 'I can't believe it'! They put one over on me! Emma May and I were peers. I served on the ISRR Board.
To the AAC Board. Thank you so much for this wonderful honor -- especially in the year that I've decided to wrap up my activist efforts. I could not be more honored!
